Girl Scouts collect items for homeless

A Huntington Beach Girl Scout troop helped the homeless bundle up May 7 for its Silver Award Project.

Troop 1473 collected beanies, scarves, gloves and blankets to help Santa Ana’s homeless men stay warm at night. The girls also gave them decks of cards.

The Girl Scout Cadettes outfitted 150 men with the collected supplies for their Silver Award Project.

The troop has been together for nine years, and the girls are all in seventh or eighth grade.

Tara Coffey, Nicole Cortese, Noelle Cortese, Christine Czintos, Jillian Doke, Ashley Edwards, Nicole Flores, Meagan Lopez, Kate Ruthenbeck and Katy Smale received their Silver Awards on Tuesday.
