Juveniles detained in curfew sweep

Newport Beach police detained more than a dozen juveniles, three for criminal conduct, as part of a curfew sweep following a rash of thefts by minors in the city, police officials said Wednesday.

On Friday and Saturday night, police searched for juveniles who were violating the city’s 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew. The law bars kids from being out in public areas, such as streets and alleys, at night and in the early morning.

The ramped-up enforcement came after a string of thefts were commited overnight by children, police said.
