An Irvine man was charged last week with aiding a drunk driver to flee the scene of a deadly crash, then lying to police about the driver’s whereabouts, according to a news release from the Orange County district attorney’s office.

Jamie Servin, 38 was charged with one felony count of accessory after the fact with knowledge of a person, and one misdemeanor count of resisting and obstructing a peace officer.

Servin also faces a sentencing enhancement for a prior robbery conviction in 1992. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison.

Servin is accused of assisting 38-year-old Robert Charles Serrano on Jan. 3. While driving under the influence of alcohol, Serrano ran a red light at the intersection of MacArthur Boulevard and Main Street in Santa Ana.

Four cars, including Serrano’s, were involved in the ensuing crash. A female driver of one of the involved vehicles, Corban White, 18, was injured and later died at a nearby hospital.

Servin is accused of picking Serrano up at the scene and later telling police he had not been in contact with and did not know where Serrano had gone, according to the release.

Servin turned himself in to the La Palma Police Department on Thursday. He was released from custody on $100,000 bail.

Serrano pleaded guilty Feb. 22 to one felony count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence while intoxicated and multiple sentencing enhancements. He was sentenced to 31 years in state prison.
