Newport Beach firefighters responded to a report of a 5-gallon bucket labeled “radioactive materials” near Hoag Hospital early Tuesday, according to authorities.

Authorities received the call about 5:11 a.m., Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Schulz said in a statement.

Newport Beach and Huntington Beach hazardous materials teams went to the scene, isolated the area and determined with their dosimeters that there were no radioactive materials in the bucket, according to Schulz.

Huntington Beach firefighters then performed additional tests that showed the materials were not hazardous, either.

Hoag staff then disposed of bucket’s contents, which were not identified in the release.

Patient care at the hospital was not affected by the incident.
