Police seek suspect in residential burglary

Costa Mesa police are asking for information about a suspected residential burglar who pepper sprayed a homeowner.

The Police Department reported that an unknown suspect pried open the front door to a home in the 2400 block of Elden Avenue about 2:41 a.m. Monday.

The homeowner awoke to find the suspect in his home.

The suspect then pepper sprayed him, according to a Police Department release. In response, the homeowner grabbed his handgun and fired several times at the suspect, but missed.

The suspect, whom police did not provide any description of, was last seen running away from the home.
