A vehicle heading westbound on East Coast Highway crossed the median and struck several cars heading the opposite direction in a seven-car crash that shut East Coast Highway for about two hours on Monday, police said.

Police received a report of the crash at 5:30 p.m. near Morning Canyon Road.

“There were seven vehicles involved in the accident and one individual was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries,” said Kathy Lowe, a Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman.”The female driver that crossed over the center divider was driving a Honda Civic.”

East Coast Highway was closed for about two hours for cleanup and police investigation, she said. No one has been arrested in connection with the crash, and the cause remains under investigation, she said.
