Police arrest homicide suspect

Costa Mesa police arrested a man and woman Wednesday in connection to a stabbing death that took place in early September, according to a department news release.

Police found and arrested Adolph Guadalupe Mireles, 38, of Huntington Beach, and Madelyn Martinez, 37, of Costa Mesa, about 11 a.m. at a Dynasty Suites Motel in the 1300 block of Firestone Boulevard in Santa Fe Springs.

Mireles was arrested on suspicion of stabbing and killing Robert Liken, 43, of Long Beach, after the victim had spent the night with Martinez at a house in the 1100 block of Atlanta Way. Both men had a relationship with Martinez, according to police.

Martinez was arrested on suspicion of helping Mireles avoid capture for two weeks after the stabbing, the release says.

On Sept. 4, Costa Mesa police and fire personnel found Liken in the living room of the Atlanta Way house, bleeding from multiple stab wounds. Late that night in Long Beach, Costa Mesa police found the Toyota Corolla Mireles allegedly fled in.

Neighbors have said the family who owned the home had been renting out a room after having financial trouble, describing the male renter as “kind of a big guy, tattooed,” who lived with his girlfriend.

Mireles and Martinez were booked into Costa Mesa jail and held on $1million bail each.

Two others found in the hotel room, Balraj Singh, 41, of Newport Beach, and Catherine Skene, 26, of Anaheim Hills, were detained. Singh was held on an unrelated probation offense, while Skene was released pending further investigation.
