Money put to good use

Here’s a look at how some recipients spent Laguna Beach Community Foundation grants awarded to them in 2011.

•No Square Theater used its 2011 grant to obtain foldable seating platforms and stackable chairs to create an 86-seat theater. The entire configuration can be struck and stored on site when they have rehearsals.

•The Boys & Girls Club’s $10,000 grant in 2011 helped 200 children learn more about environmental issues and to participate in conservation activities and environmental advocacy through the club’s Ultimate Earth Environmental Educational Program.

•Glennwood Housing Foundation’s 2011 grant was earmarked for construction of the facility for young adults with developmental disabilities being constructed at Ruby Street and South Coast Highway.

•Laguna Art Museum used its $5,000 grant to provide education programs, including interactive visits for school groups from primary grades to university level. The grant also supported the installation of “23 Points of View,” featuring plein air paintings by fourth grade students at the School of Our Lady in Santa Ana, who participated in artist September McGee’s drawing classes.

•About 30 office visits were funded by the 2011 foundation grant to the Laguna Beach Community Clinic Women’s Program.

•Laguna Greenbelt prepared an educational slideshow on the value of wildlife corridors with its grant.

•Pacific Marine Mammal Center treated 128 animals in 2011, helped by a $5,000 grant from the foundation.
