Briefly In the News: Gardeners sought for South Laguna meeting

The South Laguna Civic Assn. is asking gardeners and those interested in the South Laguna Community Garden Park to join them at 11 a.m. Saturday at Aliso Creek Inn & Golf Course, 31106 S. Coast Hwy.

The group will discuss ideas and funding to make the park permanent, according to a news release. Fundraising is already underway and donations also have been made. A no-host lunch at Ben Brown’s Cafe will take place afterward. Those interested should RSVP to Tom Joliet at longbrdr@hotmail.com.

Donations can be made out to CVOC/SL Garden and mailed to the South Laguna Civic Assn. at P.O. Box 9668, South Laguna, CA 92652. Contributions are tax deductible.

The association is also hosting its next workshop at 10 a.m. Feb. 23 at the garden, at the corner of Eagle Rock Way and Coast Highway, with Michelle Haynes as the guest speaker. She will discuss, “From kitchen to garden: closing the loop on your food waste.”

Ride for Glennwood House set for Feb. 17

Glennwood House of Laguna Beach is organizing a Harley Hearts for Glennwood Ride from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 17 from Irvine to Newport Coast through Laguna Beach, past the Glennwood House, to Dana Point, Ortega and back to Irvine. Funds from the ride will go toward building Glennwood House.

Check in is at 9 a.m. at Orange County Harley Davidson, 8677 Research Drive in Irvine. After the event, riders can return the Glennwood House for a complimentary hot dog lunch and to meet the future residents, a news release said. Registration is $25 per rider and $15 per passenger.

Those who cannot attend and want to make a donation can mail checks payable to Glennwood Housing Foundation to 101 Pacifica, Suite 255, Irvine CA 92618. More information is at https://www.glennwoodhousing.org.
