The Huntington Beach Independent’s digital presence is constantly changing and improving, and we’re excited to announce a new feature we hope will help our readers get the news they want faster and better.

We’re bringing back breaking news alerts, which will go out to subscribers via email. The alerts will quickly get out the basics of a breaking news story — such as a major car crash, fire or school lockdown — as soon as we become aware of it. We’ll continue to update the story on our website as we get information, but the alerts will now be the first source of information.

To subscribe, visit https://www.hbindependent.com/about/newsletters. Just enter your email address and check which alerts you’d like to receive. There will also be an option to sign up for alerts from our sister newspapers, the Coastline Pilot in Laguna Beach and the Daily Pilot in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa.
