The atmosphere was electric Saturday as the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort & Marina held its 29th annual Lighting of the Bay celebration.

Santa Claus gave his reindeer a rest for the night and arrived by watercraft to flip the switch to illuminate more than 50 floating trees and other decorations.

The free event also featured train rides, holiday crafts, cookie decorating, a screening of the movie “Elf” and live chorale and musical performances — including a concert by the Tijuana Dogs.

Newport Dunes is at 1131 Back Bay Drive in Newport Beach.
