Driver backs car into storm channel

A Laguna Beach resident accidentally backed her car into the Laguna Canyon Creek storm channel Wednesday afternoon but was uninjured, city police said.

parked her two-door Mercedes Benz convertible at the Verizon Wireless lot, 495 Broadway St., Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email. When the driver got back in, she mistakenly backed the car through a chain-link fence, and it dropped into the channel, Callus wrote.

Laguna Beach Fire Department personnel evaluated the woman, but she refused medical treatment and called a cab, Callus said.

Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident.
