Is Faye legit?
Yes, Faye is a relatively new company to join the travel insurance market and boasts a 4.4-star rating from ConsumerAffairs and a 4.5-star rating on Trustpilot as of January 2024.
Since Faye only started offering its modern travel insurance policies in 2022, most people may not be familiar with the brand.
Despite being lesser known, Faye offers plans backed by United States Fire Insurance Company, which has an AM Best rating of Excellent, meaning it’s a highly reputable insurance provider.
The company offers comprehensive travel insurance coverage and tons of optional add-ons, giving you the freedom to customize your policy according to your unique needs.
With this review, we’ll break down the main highlights of Faye travel insurance to help you determine if it’s the right choice for you.
Bottom line: Main highlights of Faye travel insurance
What sets Faye apart from the competition is their highly digital, online process that makes it super easy to shop for coverage, select your preferred add-ons, and pay your premium.
The website and app allow you to get a quote in as little as 60 seconds, making the process as painless as possible.
In addition, Faye offers 24/7 customer support and has an excellent digital claims and reimbursement process. Faye’s mobile app offers a completely streamlined claims process - from filing a claim in minutes to getting reimbursed on approved claims to your phone’s wallet.
For example, if you need to submit a claim, you simply do it via the app and get reimbursed to Faye Wallet, the app’s secure digital debit card that you can add to Apple Pay or Google Pay. If something goes wrong on your trip, you may be eligible for instant reimbursements, ensuring you have the funds you need to replace lost items or pay for unexpected travel expenses, rather than paying out of pocket.
Faye’s ability to reimburse you on approved claims and common travel inconveniences via Faye Wallet is a huge benefit versus other providers that often have complicated and slow claims processes.
Finally, Faye’s standard travel insurance package is extremely comprehensive and customizable, and can cover you for trip cancellations, emergency medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation, trip delays, and other circumstances.

*Note, these coverages vary by state and may not be available to residents of certain states.
The base plan includes the following coverage (note that some benefits and add-ons are not available for purchase in all states):
-
Trip cancellation:
If you have to cancel your trip for a covered reason, Faye can reimburse you for 100% of your prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs, up to your estimated total trip cost (which you input at the time of purchasing your policy).
-
Emergency medical expenses:
Faye can reimburse you up to $250,000 in emergency medical expenses, giving you extra peace of mind when you’re traveling overseas. This also includes emergency medical coverage related to COVID-19. Note that these limits may vary depending on whether you travel domestically or internationally, and where you live.
-
Emergency medical evacuation:
This is coverage of transportation in the case of illness or injury that is acute, severe or life-threatening when adequate medical treatment is not available in the immediate area. So if you’re heading somewhere remote, such as the Amazon rainforest on your trip to Brazil, having a policy that includes this will provide extra peace of mind. Faye’s standard international travel insurance plan can cover up to $500,000 in medical evacuation coverage which is enough for most trips abroad.
-
Non-medical evacuation coverage:
In some cases, you need to evacuate due to a nonmedical emergency, such as civil unrest or natural disasters like an earthquake on your trip to Bali. For international trips, Faye can provide up to $100,000 in nonmedical evacuation coverage for these circumstances. This benefit doesn’t usually come standard with other providers and is only available through international coverage with Faye.
-
Pre-existing Conditions:
Faye travel insurance can cover some pre-existing conditions when you meet certain criteria. Pre-existing conditions can be covered as long as you purchase your plan within 14 days of your initial trip deposit and are medically able to travel when you purchase your plan. If you do not purchase Faye travel insurance within 14 days of your initial trip deposit, you won’t receive the waiver for pre-existing medical conditions.
-
Trip delays:
While you’re traveling, you may experience delays outside of your control. For example, your flight may depart several hours late, causing you to miss a connection to your destination. If you have a covered trip delay, Faye flight insurance can reimburse you up to $300 per day ($4,500 per trip max). This applies to delays of more than six hours.
-
Lost/damaged baggage:
Faye’s standard insurance plan includes coverage for lost and damaged luggage. If you have a covered loss, Faye can reimburse you up to $150 per item ($2,000 max)
Optional add-ons
While Faye’s standard insurance plan is comprehensive, you may want to customize your coverage with certain add-ons to give your plan a boost. Optional coverage can include:
- CFAR insurance
- Rental car damage coverage
- Pet care coverage
- Vacation rental damage coverage
- Adventure & extreme sports coverage.
Note, these coverages may not be available to residents of certain states.

Things not covered by Faye travel insurance
Here are some things that may not be covered under Faye’s plan:
-
Trips to certain destinations:
Faye doesn’t cover trips to Afghanistan, Cuba, Ukraine, Iran, Syria, Iraq, Russia and North Korea.
-
Acts of war:
Faye travel insurance doesn’t reimburse you for delays or cancellations related to acts of war.
-
Incidents related to drug/alcohol use:
Faye doesn’t cover illnesses and injuries that occur due to the use of alcohol or illicit substances. Additionally, Faye won’t reimburse you if you incur expenses due to the use of narcotics that haven’t been prescribed by a physician.
-
Elective medical care:
In medical lingo, an elective procedure is one that isn’t absolutely necessary to preserve your life or well-being. Faye doesn’t cover this type of medical care.
-
Intentional injuries:
Faye doesn’t cover expenses arising from intentional injuries. For example, if you engage in self-harm, your Faye travel insurance won’t cover your medical expenses.
-
Medical tourism:
Faye coverage is designed for leisure trips. If you’re traveling to another country just to get medical care, the company won’t reimburse you for any costs associated with medical tourism, even if those costs would normally be covered by Faye’s travel insurance package as a result of injury.
-
Extreme sports:
Faye’s standard insurance plan doesn’t cover extreme sports and adventure activities (though it covers 80+ activities including regular skiing and snowboarding), so you won’t have any coverage for these items unless you purchase the extreme sports add-on.
Overall, these exclusions are common to most travel insurance plans.
Cost of Faye travel insurance plans
Travel insurance costs vary depending on your age, your state of residence, the length of your trip and your destination and more. Therefore, how much you pay will be specific to your individual trip criteria.
That said, we requested several example quotes and used them to determine an estimated average cost of Faye travel insurance. While your actual cost will be different from what you see below, this should give you a ballpark for how much to set aside for coverage.
To determine the average cost, we asked for quotes based on the following criteria:
-

Breaking down Faye reviews from customers
It’s important to take negative reviews with a grain of salt as disgruntled customers are more likely to leave a review than happy customers. In fact, we found that in the positive reviews, people often mentioned quick reimbursement as one of Faye’s best traits.
This shows that the length can vary depending on the complexity of the case. Most insurance providers thoroughly investigate insurance claims and it’s not unheard of for some insurance providers to take up to several months to investigate complex claims cases.
Lastly, regarding contacting Faye, there are two phone numbers available for customers to speak to a representative which are: +1-833-240-7056 (within the U.S.) or +1-804-482-2122 (outside the U.S.)
That said, Faye is an online-first company, so if you are someone who is less tech-forward, or who is looking for plans that are less comprehensive and cover singular aspects of your trip (such as only your health), Faye may not be right for you.
Is Faye travel insurance worth it?
Faye travel insurance is well worth the cost, especially if you’re comfortable with a streamlined online experience and like having a support team at your fingertips 24/7 (weekends and holidays included).
The company also outperforms its competitors in terms of technology and convenience, as every customer gets access to Faye Wallet and the free mobile app.
Generally, Faye is good for travelers who feel comfortable shopping for coverage online. It’s also a good fit for extreme sports enthusiasts, as the adventure add-on includes comprehensive coverage for medical expenses and destroyed/damaged gear.
If you are a tech savvy person or a digital nomad, Faye travel insurance might be the optimal choice for you.
