Man arrested on suspicion of stealing credit cards

A Beaumont, Calif., resident has been arrested in connection to burglaries near Fashion Island, police said Tuesday.

David Scott Raines, 44, was arrested Friday after an employee at the Marriott Hotel & Spa at 900 Newport Center Drive called police to say Raines matched the description of a suspect accused of stealing credit cards from lockers in September at the nearby Island Hotel spa, according to a Newport Beach Police Department news release.

Police said Raines visited the Marriott on Friday, saying he wanted to make an appointment at the spa. He asked to use the restroom, but the employee denied him access because he matched the suspect's description, the release said.

After Raines left, the employee spotted him boarding a bus. Police stopped the bus a short distance away and Raines was arrested without incident, the release said.

Raines is accused of using the stolen credit cards to make purchases at Fashion Island.
