Moon speech

In a speech to Congress on May 25, 1961, President Kennedy issued the challenge for NASA to send a man to the moon. That challenge was met on July 20, 1969, when Apollo 11's lunar module landed on the lunar surface. In the background are then-Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, left, and the House speaker at the time, Sam Rayburn.
