Two rare shots stand out at Arnold Palmer Invitational

It isn’t too often that golfers -- even the pros -- score an albatross.

But this weekend, two players recorded double eagles on successive days at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando.

Hitting his second shot from 206 yards, Zach Johnson landed the ball on the green and watched it roll into the cup on the par-5 16th hole. Johnson felt optimistic just beforehand.

“Hit a good tee shot and walking off I see Mr. Arnold Palmer, the king, standing there,” he said on Sunday. “I had to go ahead and shake his hand ... maybe it rubbed off on me.”

On Saturday, Daniel Berger made a 2 on the par-5 sixth hole, hitting his second shot from 240 yards out.

“It landed perfect and I didn’t see it go in but the way the crowd reacted I figured it was either in or close,” Berger said. “When I got up there it was pretty cool to pick the ball up out of the hole.”

Eight years had gone by since two players had albatrosses in the same PGA Tour event.
