From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The bleat goes on in the rekindled Donald Trump-Martha Stewart battle.

Trump fired off a letter Tuesday to the lifestyle entrepreneur, saying that her failed show “Martha Stewart: The Apprentice” was “a mistake for everybody -- especially NBC,” after Stewart said her version of the show floundered because Trump would not consent to putting his show on hiatus to make way for hers. Stewart told Newsweek her show was intended to be the only “Apprentice” on the air and was to start with her firing Trump.

“Your performance was terrible in that the show lacked mood, temperament and just about everything a show needs for success,” Trump wrote.

He charged that NBC was never going to allow the Donald to be fired from her show: “Essentially, you made this firing up just as you made up your sell order of ImClone,” he wrote, referring to the stock-sale case that led to her imprisonment.

Stewart issued a statement, saying: “The letter is so mean-spirited and reckless that I almost can’t believe my longtime friend Donald Trump wrote it.”
