What Supermarket Shoppers Really Want

Share

I just finished “Did Markets Shelve Price-War Plans?” (March 29) and I still see that the powers that be who are directing these establishments have no idea what brings satisfied customers back to their stores.

When I go to the grocery store I want to buy what is on my list. Therefore, No. 1 in my requirement is availability of the product. If I want something, I will pay the price; if I don’t want it, free is too much.

The second thing I want is friendly, helpful staff. Because of the ill-fated strike, I left Vons and started shopping for most of my needs at Stater Bros. I found well-stocked shelves and, even more important, very friendly, helpful clerks. An added bonus is the savings I found compared with the prices at Vons and Albertsons.

If I could, I would have a law passed that required everyone in the grocery business from store manager level to the top echelon to do all the shopping for their families. Then they would have an idea of what is really important and they would quit playing these mind games with us.
