“Even though we usually have a significantly higher number of men registered on the site, the number of women looking to cash in on their spare rooms is growing exponentially,” said Sebastiaan Ram, who manages Easyroommate.com. Since September, the site has experienced a 50% increase in women registering to rent out rooms as compared with a 40% increase in men.

The average age of women listing rooms on the website is four years younger than that of men.

Of the cities studied, Los Angeles has the largest number of women profiting from their spare rooms, followed by New York and Atlanta. Los Angeles also has some of the youngest female users, with an average age of 31.
