Shopping guide: Abbot Kinney Boulevard, Venice
Few places in Los Angeles provide a more concentrated stretch of forward-thinking home design and gift stores than Abbot Kinney in Venice. Indie retailers set among restaurants, bars and food trucks provide an entertaining experience, with many stores set up in early 20th century bungalows. You'll find merchants with artisan-made furniture, a custom perfumer, genuine junk shops, Midcentury Modern dealers and more. Parking can be sparse at times but is blessedly unmetered. Here's a sampling of shops, sequenced as a walking loop.

A good place to start your walk is Very Venice, which opened in August. About 3,000 square feet of connecting bungalow buildings are filled with the work of more than 100 artists.
