Throwback Thursday: Onetime Keith Richards hideaway sells in Laurel Canyon

Share

Rolling Stones musician Keith Richards once brought a house on this Laurel Canyon site to the ground.

The original 1930s home was part of a two-house compound that served as a center for the Laurel Canyon rock ‘n’ roll movement in the 1960s and ’70s. Richards was renting the place, and a party guest helping close up for the night failed to turn off the gas fireplace all the way.

Incense caused built-up gas to explode, and Richards barely escaped.

The 1981 renovated Tudor-style house that stands there today just sold for $3.62 million.

Surrounded by mature trees, the two-story home is set back from the street and is reached by way of a bridge over a creek.

The 3,920 square feet of living space includes a formal living room with leaded-glass windows and French doors, a family room, a pub, a library, five bedrooms and four bathrooms. A wine refrigerator, a breakfast bar, a walk-in pantry and marble counters are among features in the updated kitchen.

A swimming pool with a spa, lawn and a pergola are also on the more than half-acre lot.
