Sunset Strip aerie tops list of last week’s pricey home sales
Homes in Encino, La Cañada Flintridge and Santa Monica were among the most expensive home sales to post last week in the Combined West L.A. Multiple Listing Service.
Yes, yes, we know many sales are closing outside the MLS system and will make their way into public records weeks from now but, for the moment, here’s our lineup of the top four by sales price for the period Feb. 21-28. Feel free to add yours in the comment section.
No. 4: $3.85 million / Encino
“Encino’s most classic and iconic estate,” according to listing details, sits on 1.25 acres and has 7,552 square feet of interior space. Built in 1967, the property had been in the possession of the original owners since it was purchased for $53,000 and was “often visited by Hollywood movie and television stars and starlets.” Star turn goes to listing agent Douglas Ross of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties for putting the romance back in romance language: “where history and luxury co-exist.”
No. 3: $4.305 million / La Cañada Flintridge
The Tuscan-style “timeless classic” was built in 2002. There are more than 7,000 square feet of living space, a gym, a game room, a three-car garage and a swimming pool. Janice McGlashan of Coldwell Banker listed the house. Bettina Rosenfeld of Coldwell Banker represented the buyer.
No. 2: $4.5 million / Santa Monica
Although classified as Craftsman architecturally, this boxy shingle-clad house has not obscured its midcentury roots. Reclaimed hand-sawn barn floors from Connecticut give the nearly 3,800 square feet of interior space a distinctly woody ambience. The more than half-acre lot is lushly landscaped with mature trees. Frank Langen of Deasy Penner & Partners was the listing agent, while Elisabeth Halsted of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices represented the buyer.
No. 1: $6.25 million / Los Angeles
The Sunset Strip-area view property hadn’t been on the market in more than 58 years. The 18,800-square-foot mostly flat lot was the draw here, although there’s a main house, guest house and garage on site. The gated driveway actually passes through the carriage house. Ron Holliman of Coldwell Banker listed the house, and Steve Frankel of Coldwell Banker brought the buyer.
