'The Second City Improv All-Stars'( April 19, 2012 )
Chicago needs a show like this, a weekly improv-comedy show that pays tribute to this town's contribution to the art form. "The Second City Improv All-Stars" succeeds in being both a slick and entertaining attraction and an accessible yet laudably detailed introduction to improv comedy. Director Mick Napier smartly mixes up traditional games with some long-form experiments and still makes room those very simple two-person scenes based entirely on one suggestion and designed not just to be funny, but true to life. On Monday night, Chelsea Devantez and Hans Holsen created just such a lovely scene. "What if I told you I'm not attracted to you?" said she, fending him off. "Well, I'm attracted to you," he replied, hopefully. "So we're halfway there." -- Chris Jones
