Video: ‘In the Heart of the Sea’ trailer: Chris Hemsworth battles Moby Dick

Call him Ishmael? Chris Hemsworth tangles with a massive whale in the first trailer for the Ron Howard-directed drama “In the Heart of the Sea,” which you can watch above.

Set for release March 13 from Warner Bros., the film is based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s nonfiction book of the same name. It tells the story of the Essex, a New England whaling ship assaulted by one of its very targets in the winter of 1820.

The two-minute teaser briefly glimpses the crew — it includes Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy and Tom Holland — and the destruction wreaked by the giant sea creature. One survivor (Brendan Gleeson, in voice-over) describes the ordeal as “the story of men and a demon.”

The real-life disaster of the Essex would go on to inspire Herman Melville’s classic novel “Moby-Dick,” a development covered in “Sea,” with Ben Whishaw playing the author.

“In the Heart of the Sea” marks Hemsworth’s second time working with Howard: The two previously made the Formula One drama “Rush” together.
