'Wolf' -- Mike Nichols( Francois Duhamel / Columbia Pictures )
Though he once directed "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?," Mike Nichols never attempted a full-on creature feature until he undertook this werewolf horror-drama starring Jack Nicholson as a mild-mannered New York book editor who gets bit by a wolf and starts to show some peculiar animal abilities. Though Nichols, known for his smart comedy-dramas such as "The Graduate" and "Working Girl," sought to bring a sense of highbrow sheen to what's usually a B-movie genre, the results generally failed to impress. Critics gave the film mixed reviews, and the summer release made a decent $131 million worldwide.
