'For the Love of the Game' -- Sam Raimi( Ben Glass / Universal Studios )
Sam Raimi built his reputation on the gonzo low-budget "Evil Dead" horror movies and eventually became known for big-budget studio blockbusters, but between those two eras, he attempted to show off his versatility with films that featured neither monsters nor superheroes. Though the thriller "A Simple Plan" is well regarded, his sentimental baseball drama starring Kevin Costner, "For the Love of the Game," earned stinging reviews and was a box-office flop, earning just $46 million worldwide.
