That wasn’t too tough to crack: A week after opening in theaters, the animated critter caper “The Nut Job” is set to get a sequel, “The Nut Job 2,” Open Road Films has announced.

Featuring the voices of Will Arnett, Brendan Fraser, Liam Neeson and Katherine Heigl, the first “Nut Job” tells the story of a mischievous squirrel who sets out to rob the town’s biggest nut shop to feed himself and his pals for the winter.

The 3-D movie opened Jan. 17 and took in about $25.7 million at the box office over the holiday weekend, beating out fellow newcomer “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” for third place.

“The Nut Job” is a co-production of Gulfstream Pictures, Red Rover International and ToonBox Entertainment, and its gross represents a better-than-expected take for an animated film not from a major studio.

“The Nut Job 2” is set to open Jan. 15, 2016.
