Awaiting visitors to the "Age of Mammals" exhibition at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County are the fossilized skeletons of an American mastodon (Mammut americanum), left, and a mountain deer (Navahoceros fricki). The exhibit opens July 11 in the recently renovated northern wing of the museum's original building in Exposition Park.
