Laserium, the music-backed light show that was a staple at the Griffith Observatory for 28 years until the facility closed for remodeling in 2002, is poised for a Hollywood-style comeback -- in Hollywood, of course.

The Laserium CyberTheater will open June 25 at the refurbished Vine Theater at the intersection of Hollywood and Vine, backers said Friday. It will feature updated versions of three of the most popular observatory shows -- with music from the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd -- plus new shows and new laser, video and computer technology.

Among the new features will be an “interactive light instrument,” dubbed a LightDancer, that allows audience members to create their own light shows by “moving through, and breaking, beams of light.”

The theater initially will present 15 shows a week.
