‘Scream Queens’ recap: Another one bites the dust

Well, well, well. Things just got a whole lot more interesting, haven’t they, pledges? With only four episodes left, more mysteries are being revealed; but these revelations are leaving a wake of unanswered questions.

Picking up where last week’s episode left off, Grace (Skyler Samuels) and Dean Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) are finally having their chat about the 1995 bathtub baby. Shortly into the conversation, Grace becomes exasperated with Munsch’s reluctance to give up any information and ends up telling her that if she keeps ignoring the killings she is going to be the next victim.

Holding true to Grace’s theory, later that night Munsch is at home when the Red Devil strikes — in a wonderfully shot homage to Curtis’ mother’s shower scene from “Psycho.” However, unlike in Alfred Hitchcock’s film, Munsch is well aware of her attacker — she has seen the movie 50 times, after all — and easily disarms him.

Regaining some composure, the single attacker is soon joined by two colleagues, another Red Devil and someone dressed up as Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (this person is later revealed to be Gigi (Nasim Pedrad)). Munsch is not intimidated, although she looks as though she wouldn’t even harm a fly she easily defeats her attackers, who hastily retreat.

Back at Kappa house, everyone’s favorite security guard, Denise Hemphill (Niecy Nash), has moved in and is joining the Chanels in their quest to find proof that Zayday (Keke Palmer) and Grace are the killers. In the midst of their sleuthing, tragedy strikes when Jennifer (Breezy Eslin) is killed by the Red Devil — the most tragic part is that she never got to finish the candle vlog she was in the middle of making when stabbed. After this killing, Munsch has no choice but to shut down the campus at Wallace University.

While the university is thrown into chaos, Grace is dealing with her own personal struggles after Munsch finally reveals the name of the woman who died in the bathtub in 1995. Despite all of Pete (Diego Boneta) and Grace’s sleuthing skills, they are not able to dig up information on this woman with just a name alone. They do, however, deduce that the Hag of Shady Lane was probably admitted to the same mental hospital Munsch was put in last episode, so the two head there for looking for answers and walk away with a painting that leads them to believe Gigi is the Hag.

Grace confronts Gigi, who laughs at her lack of evidence and chalks up her accusations to Grace being upset about her engagement to Wes (Oliver Hudson). Grace, incensed that her father did not inform her about the engagement and finding Gigi suspicious, speaks with him and tries to get him to see who Gigi really is — however, Wes is beginning to look more and more suspicious himself.

Grace faces even more personal challenges when Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts) confronts her with a file she got from Scotland Yard detectives — because, of course, she would have them on retainer — that contains the truth about her mother. Now Grace knows that not only was her mother the president of Kappa and the ringleader behind that negligent homicide that fateful night in 1995, but she also was not the saint her father portrayed her to be. Aside from her many arrests, she was sued by Wes for custody of Grace due to her reckless behavior and died shortly after in a fiery drunk driving accident.

Learning all this only heightens her need to solve these murders and stop the Red Devil(s). But, while Grace is hot on their trail, one of the Red Devils -- Boone (Nick Jonas) -- has finally stepped out and is ready to end the games with Gigi.
