The selection of Michael S. Smith as the next White House decorator has prompted a flurry of interest in the Santa Monica designers work. Clues to his approach can be found in a recently published Rizzoli book, which provides a visual tour of his projects. Like many coffee table books particularly home and garden ones Michael S. Smith Houses is not so much a reflection of reality as an unapologetic escape from it, a journey into some rarefied estates with Smith and co-author Christine Pittel as tour guides.
