The selection of Michael S. Smith as the next White House decorator has prompted a flurry of interest in the Santa Monica designerยs work. Clues to his approach can be found in a recently published Rizzoli book, which provides a visual tour of his projects. Like many coffee table books ย particularly home and garden ones ย ยMichael S. Smith Housesย is not so much a reflection of reality as an unapologetic escape from it, a journey into some rarefied estates with Smith and co-author Christine Pittel as tour guides.
