Volunteers have been working feverishly to complete the succulent arrangements. Miniature gardens planted in shining metal trash cans are poised for their premiere, while crews are putting the finishing touches on other demonstration landscapes. All are part of the L.A. Garden Show, which starts Friday at the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden. Two new permanent gardens at the arboretum will open as part of the event; California landscape designers such as Craig Ruggless, whose demonstration garden is shown here, will showcase their work. Hear lectures, watch demonstrations and visit more than 75 exhibitors. 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Admission is $2.50 to $7. 301 N. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia, (626) 821-3222, www.lagardenshow.com.
