Sunday pick: Claremont Heritage home tour
Last-minute suggestion for a weekend diversion: Claremont Heritage’s annual home tour on Sunday. The event last year was memorable, providing peeks inside a 1959 Richard Neutra design, the post-and-beam of celebrated painter Karl Benjamin and the art-filled house of Harrison McIntosh, the noted ceramist who, in his late 90s, charmed visitors at his home studio.
This year’s tour will feature houses along Indian Hill Boulevard — Tudor, Craftsman, Foursquare, English cottage and what Claremont Heritage Executive Director David Shearer described as New Orleans Mediterranean.
“It has an amazing history of art, culture, academics,” Shearer said of Claremont, noting that the City of Trees and PhDs even has old sidewalks with their own kind of curb appeal: “elephant toe” designs embedded with rocks.
Tickets are $30 if bought through the Claremont Heritage website. Web sales will end midday Saturday, but tickets can be purchased in person for $35 starting at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Garner House, the 1926 Spanish Colonial Revival that serves as the home of Claremont Heritage, 840 N. Indian Hill Blvd.
