Even those who consider themselves design fans may write off auctions as the sport of collectors and professional decorators. But as Los Angeles Modern Auctions founder Peter Loughrey points out, it’s still possible to score fantastic, functional design with a great pedigree at prices that aren’t any higher than what one might pay for similar quality home furnishings in mid-to-upscale chain stores.
