Palm Springs Modernism architecture tours tickets selling fast

The Palm Springs Modernism Show may not begin until Feb. 14, but tickets are selling fast for many of the architecture tours during the related 11-day celebration of desert design.

Already bought your tour tickets to Sunnylands and the William Cody glass house? Consider yourself lucky. Those events have sold out. But tickets are still available for selected tours as well as lectures and films, and the modern living, vintage car and vintage trailer expos.

Limited tickets were released Friday for tours of the Frey House II, above, architect Albert Frey’s home built high in the San Jacinto Mountains overlooking Palm Springs. Tickets are $50.

The Designer Showcase at the Marrakesh Country Club, described as “modernist Moroccan-meets Hollywood Regency,” will be open for tours Feb. 15 to 24. Tickets are $35.

Architect E. Stewart Williams’ Temple Isaiah, designed in 1949, will be open to the public for the first time. The tour will include a display of memorabilia as well as works by Israeli sculptor Yaacov Agam.

The Royal Hawaiian Estates in south Palm Springs, designed by architects Donald Wexler and Richard Harrison, has a tropical atmosphere in 12 buildings spanning five acres. Tour tickets are $35.

Blu Homes hosts a Feb. 16 fundraiser for the A+D Museum at the prefab Joshua Tree home of Tim Disney. The afternoon include a panel discussion with Sam Lubell and Greg Goldin moderated by Blu Homes vice president of design and creative director Karl Daubmann. Tickets are $50 and $60.

In addition, Disney’s home will open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 17, 23 and 24. Admission is free.
