The Royal Ascot horse race meeting at Ascot, England is celebrating its 300 years of horse racing at the Royal Racecourse. Hats have become a large part of the tradition's fashions. Here we take a look at some of the hats from the opening day.

Women bring out their showiest hats for Ladies Day at Ascot Racecourse near London. Ladies Day, the third day of racing during the Royal Ascot meet, is the highlight of the week at the track, opened in 1711 after Queen Anne first spotted its potential when riding in the forest near Windsor Castle.
