‘Last Remaining Seats’ to show classic films in historic L.A. theaters

Architecture fans can experience the opulent charm of downtown Los Angeles’ historic movie palaces when the Los Angeles Conservancy’s popular “Last Remaining Seats” film series kicks off June 11 with “The Lady Eve” at the Los Angeles Theatre.

Tickets to the screenings often sell out quickly. Tickets for non-members go on sale Wednesday, April 9, at 10 a.m. Tickets are not sold over the phone, and you will need to create an online account to buy tickets.

The lineup includes the classics “West Side Story” on June 14 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, “Footlight Parade” on June 18 at the Orpheum Theatre, “Back to the Future” on June 21 at the Theatre at Ace Hotel (the former United Artists Theatre), “El Gran Calavera” on June 25 at the Palace Theatre and “Citizen Kane,” which closes the series, June 28 at the Orpheum Theatre.

Actors Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson plan to attend the evening screening of “Back to the Future.” There are several hundred tickets available for that screening, but the conservancy anticipates it will be the first in the series to sell out.
