Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills remade into design wonderland
With its saturated colors, chrome-plated furniture, pink feathery plumes and outrageous animal chairs (ghoulish octopus, goth rhinoceros), the latest makeover of Greystone Mansion into decorator show house isn’t exactly a lesson in try-this-at-home design.
No matter.
Visitors who appreciate an over-the-top experience will find plenty in the Fendi Casa mirror TV, the crazy color combinations (red and turquoise in a tribute to Italian fashion designer Valentino), the patterned wall applications and the opulence loaded into the sprawling 1928 Tudor mansion.
Event organizer Design House International invited local designers to pay tribute to “titans of business” who have influenced them, a list that includes Muppets creator Jim Henson, furniture designer Phyllis Morris, early media mogul William Randolph Hearst and singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder.
The result is a colorful tour that is a departure from reality. The Design House International showcase at Greystone Mansion runs through Nov. 24. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Tickets are $44. Children under 12 are not permitted, and because the designs are installed on three floors, the event is not handicapped accessible. The address is 905 Loma Vista Drive, Beverly Hills.
