Free download: Scout Regalia’s slant on the modern fence

Share

The horizontal-slat fence has become such a familiar — some might say overly familiar — note in modern house renovations that Los Angeles designers Makoto Mizutani and Benjamin Luddy have suggested a tweak to the composition.

Mizutani and Luddy, who work under the studio name Scout Regalia, recently released a DIY cheat sheet for a simple wood fence with boards running on a staggered diagonal. The “cutsheet,” as the designers call it, is available as a free download, with a list of materials, step-by-step instructions and helpful diagrams. It’s one way to get a different look with standard hardware-store materials, Mizutani said.

The cutsheet project is part of a busy month for Scout Regalia. Best known for its modern picnic tables, benches and raised garden bed kits, the studio has expanded its product line with new wall hooks and a bike saddle bag. Luddy said he and Mizutani also were preparing this week to display their collection in the store Shelter Half, 161 S. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles.
