Treeline Woodworks

Treeline Woodworks' indoor planters are $29 to $39. (Treeline Woodworks)

From its workshop in L.A.'s Elysian Valley neighborhood, Treeline Woodworks crafts indoor planters that start at just $29. The fact that the wood is reclaimed is almost incidental; more important is the design, simple forms that leave focus on beautiful contrasts in grain.

Treeline suggests placing low-water succulents directly in planters filled with soil, but we've learned the hard way the perils of wood or ceramic pots staining wood floors or tabletops. Our suggestion: Use a trivet. Better yet: Place a potted plant with drainage cup inside the Treeline planter and fill the edges with decorative rock, so the soil can drain and the excess water can evaporate.

The planters come in three sizes: 5-inch diameter ($29), 7-inch diameter ($34) and 9-inch diameter ($39) through the Treeline shop.

The planters are the latest installment of our Handmade Holidays Gift Guide, which has included pottery, basketry, textiles and metalwork so far.  Look for daily picks posted on L.A. at Home through Christmas Eve.
