Jericho, West Bank

Russian Orthodox pilgrims emerge themselves in a tub of water from the Jordan Valley as they take part in a baptism during the Orthodox Christian Epiphany ceremony in Kasser el-Yahud, outside the West Bank town of Jericho, believed to be the place where tradition says John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ. Several thousand Orthodox Christians flocked to the Jordan River site for baptisms under a rainy sky. Israel does not allow the pilgrims to enter the Jordan River water but provides tubs filled with water from the Jordan River for baptisms and for the pilgrims to take back home.
