1932 Summer Olympic Games

May 15: 1932: "Will Rogers, the nation's funny man and comedian supreme, was out to visit the American Olympic track team at their quarters in the Olympic village. And did the muscle boys laugh? Pictured left to right are Sidney Bowman of Louisiana State, the boy who copped first place in the hop, step and jump at the recent pre-Olympic meet in Palo Alto, Calif., with a distance of 48 feet 11-1/4 inches; Glenn "Slats" Hardin who came in first in the 440 meter hurdles at the same meet, hails from Louisiana State and covered the distance in the splendid time of 53.5 seconds; the national hobby, Will; Frank Crowley of Manhattan College and the New York A.C. who came in second in the Paly meet in the 1500 meters; and Rolland Romero of Loyola University, New Orleans, who placed second in the hop, step and jump at the pre-Olympic meet.
