Cedric Nicolas-Troyan replaces Frank Darabont as ‘Huntsman’ director
The hunt for a new director of “The Huntsman” is over. Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is set to direct the dark fantasy spinoff after former “Walking Dead” show runner Frank Darabont vacated the project last week over creative differences.
Nicolas-Troyan comes from a visual-effects background and is already acquainted with the Universal Pictures franchise, having served as a second-unit director and a visual-effects supervisor on the original 2012 film, “Snow White and the Huntsman.” His visual effects work on the film also earned him an Academy Award nomination.
Set for release April 22, 2016, “The Huntsman” will focus on Chris Hemsworth’s titular character and how he first crossed paths with the evil Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron). Kristen Stewart, who played Snow White in the first film, is not returning.
Meanwhile, Emily Blunt is in negotiations to join the cast of the new movie.
Nicolas-Troyan will direct from a script most recently written by Darabont, with earlier drafts by Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos.
Schmoes Know first reported that Nicolas-Troyan was the leading candidate to replace Darabont.
