Robert and Michelle King, the team that brought the critically acclaimed drama “The Good Wife” to CBS, are bringing more politics -- and some brain-eating aliens -- to CBS.

On Wednesday the network announced a straight-to-series order for 13 episodes of “BrainDead,” a comic thriller from the Kings to be broadcast in summer 2016.

The Kings, who created and continued to act as showrunners on “The Good Wife,” recently signed a three-year producing deal with CBS Television Studios. “BrainDead” is the first project to stem from that partnership, and it promises to be an unusual one.

According to CBS, the series will follow an eager young Washington staffer who discovers that “1. The government has stopped working, and 2. alien spawn have come to Earth and eaten the brains of a growing number of Congressmen and Hill staffers.”

How many times have you heard that one before?

“We wanted to do a show that was a mix of genre-pulp and high-brow politics -- ‘The Strain’ crossed with ‘The West Wing,’” said the Kings in a press release from CBS. “It seemed like the best way to address the news today -- not straight, but as the opening act of a horror movie.”

“BrainDead” is CBS’ latest summertime genre offering, following “Under the Dome,” “Extant” and “Zoo.”
