‘Empire’ ratings continue to grow

“Empire” continues to rule the ratings.

The Fox hip-hop soap opera starring Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard saw its overall audience grow for the fourth straight week Wednesday night, generating 11.5 million viewers, up a hair from 11.4 million for last week’s broadcast.

It also marked its highest number of viewers in the 18-to-49 demographic, posting a 4.6 rating (which translates to about 6 million viewers under 50).

“Empire’s” growth is even more impressive considering this week it was facing off against original episodes of rival programs on NBC and ABC, including the highly promoted launch of the sitcom “Fresh Off The Boat” at 9:30 p.m.

The drama, whose growth has been in part propelled by its popularity on social media and has helped bring Fox out of the ratings basement, also easily topped Nielsen’s Twitter TV rankings for Wednesday night.
