OVERVIEW

As its name suggests, the all-new Lexus LX 570 now has a 5.7-liter engine that is 42 percent more powerful than the previous model’s 4.7-liter V8. This is just one item on a long list of equipment that includes variable ride height (for entry, exit, freeways and rough terrain), third row seating, a transfer box (yep, this machine really can go off-road), a pre-collision safety system and several cameras to help when parking.

Oh, and climate-controlled front seats, see-around-the-corner headlights, puddle lamps, an optional hard disc for storing up to 2000 songs, and a whole herd’s-worth of leather (that might be an exaggeration, but it gets the point over). Apart from a big garage and a generous expense account, the LX 570 will want for little else in a full-size luxury ute.

OUR TAKE
A worthy rival to the ultra-capable-yet-sybaritic Range Rover. Build quality should be nothing short of sensational, but no one dare enter with muddy boots.
