Readers React: Dianne Feinstein’s pot prohibitionism is so 20th Century

To the editor: Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) reminds me of the dowager at Downton who was dragged into the 20th century kicking and screaming over the newfangled invention of a telephone because she didn’t understand it. (“Sen. Dianne Feinstein resolute in opposition to legalizing pot,” Jan. 13)

Feinstein needs to jump into the 21st century to more accurately come to grips with all that we now know about marijuana consumption.

If she really is concerned about the dangers of ingesting foreign substances, perhaps she should first explain her silence about the thousands of deaths each year from properly prescribed prescription drugs.

To the editor: I am a Democrat who’s been looking for an excuse to cast my vote for anyone but Feinstein. Her quaint stand for harsh penalties for pot use gives me the excuse I was looking for.

Legalizing or decriminalizing marijuana use is the next logical step to alleviate prison overcrowding. It seems to me that the only politicians against the idea of leniency for marijuana users are either reactionary conservatives or are in the pockets of the private prison industry.

Hopefully intelligence prevails and people like Feinstein are not considered relevant in this argument.
