Opinion: Trump’s feud with ‘Hamilton’ cast: yet another example of his unfitness for the presidency

To the editor: Donald Trump’s call for the cast of “Hamilton” to apologize to Vice President-elect Mike Pence very clearly displays, in one tweet, his utter unfitness for the presidency. (“‘Aaron Burr’ engages in another duel — this time with Donald Trump on Twitter,” Nov. 19)

At least Pence kept his composure. Trump, on the other hand, demonstrated his incredible ability to angrily engage at the slightest provocation. I shudder to think of the ramifications of that lack of equanimity.

Perhaps, before he takes office, he should take a little time to study the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, particularly the 1st Amendment. And perhaps he could then celebrate the fact that our republic extends to everyone, not just to him, the right to say what we’re thinking.

To the editor: Now that Trump is the president-elect, he has finally discovered political correctness.

After running a campaign that completely belittled the concept, this man who challenged the citizenship of our sitting president, even after Barack Obama was harassed into displaying his birth certificate on national television, is offended that the vice president-elect was booed by the audience at a showing of the musical “Hamilton.” Trump called for an apology to Pence because the actor playing Aaron Burr delivered an impromptu speech on American values.

Aside from his hypocrisy, apparently our president-elect prefers the 2nd Amendment to the 1st.

To the editor: Trump introduced a seldom-seen level of incivility into our daily lives. His apology to all of us should precede any apology by the “Hamilton” cast members.
