Dodgers shut out, 2-0, by Giants

KEY MOMENT: The Dodgers drew consecutive walks against left-hander Javier Lopez to load the bases with two outs in the seventh inning. Giants Manager Bruce Bochy called on right-hander Sergio Romo to face Howie Kendrick, who hit a weak grounder to the reliever to end the inning.

ON THE MOUND: Carlos Frias gave up seven hits and two walks over six innings, but only one run. The run the Giants scored against him came in the third inning, when Buster Posey singled to left field with two outs to drive in Joe Panik. The Giants doubled their lead to 2-0 in the eighth inning when Chris Hatcher uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Brandon Crawford to score from third base.

AT THE PLATE: The Dodgers were held to five hits and two walks over 6 1/3 innings by Tim Hudson. Their chances against the veteran right-hander came early. Joc Pederson led off the game with a double but was left stranded at third base. Two innings later, Pederson ended the inning by grounding out with men at first base and second base. Alex Guerrero had two of the Dodgers’ seven hits.

EXTRA BASES: Top pitching prospect Julio Urias will undergo cosmetic surgery to remove a benign mass from his left eye and will be sidelined for about a month. Urias, 18, is scheduled to have the procedure May 28 in Phoenix. He is expected to be pitching in games by the end of June. Urias, who was the youngest player in the Dodgers’ major league spring-training camp, is pitching for double-A Tulsa. In seven starts, he is 1-2 with a 3.00 earned-run average. He has struck out 46 batters and walked nine in 36 innings. Opponents are batting .194 against him. Andrew Friedman, the Dodgers’ president of baseball operations, said the organization viewed the procedure as a way to limit how much Urias pitches this season.
