Coliseum upgrades: In the Oct. 30 California section, an article about proposed Coliseum upgrades said that USC had paid $6 million to upgrade the press box in 1995 and $93 million to repair damages from the Northridge earthquake in 1994. The press box was paid for by Coliseum Commission operating funds, and the earthquake repairs were funded by the federal government.

Ackman fund: An article in the Oct. 31 Business section about hedge fund manager Bill Ackman referred to one of his Pershing Square Capital Management investments as a closed-end mutual fund. It is a closed-end fund but not a mutual fund.

West Nile virus: In the Nov. 2 California section, an article about West Nile virus cases in the state reported that 517 people had tested positive for the virus so far this year. The correct number is 469.

“The Mare”: A review in the Nov. 1 Arts & Books section of Mary Gaitskill’s novel “The Mare” said that the character Velvet in the book and movie “National Velvet” was a horse. She was the horse’s rider.
